Tools: Plate, Altar Candle
Items: Paper, Writing Instrument
Herbs: Angelica, Burdock, Galangal, Horehound, Elder, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Mandrake, Root, Rose, Rue, Sassafras, Yellowdock
Cast your magick circle.
Prepare an envelope from a square of paper that you have folded – If you do not know how to do this, you can use a very small letter envelope. On the envelope write the word “Health”. Then write the name(s) of the person you are directing the healing toward.

Enclose the herbs into the envelope.

Chant the following:

I charge these herbs to aid my spell,
that _______ (name of person) will be well,
That by free will that can be blessed,

I ask the Goddess to hear my call,
that it may be correct and for the good of all.

Pass the envelope through your altar candle and catch the envelope on fire. Focus on the smoke and visualize the energy blowing with the smoke toward those in need. Allow the envelope to burn completely.

Chant the following:

I call upon a breath of wind,
Empowered by the Spirit of Air,
To carry my spell toward my kin,
and gracefully deliver it there.
By all the power of three times three,

To cause no harm, nor return on me,
As I do will, So mote it be!

2 White Candles
Herbs: Borage (a.k.a. Starflower), Thyme

Cast magick circle.

Light alter candles.

Light herbs.

Concentrate hard on the subject about which you wish to learn the truth.

Light petitioner’s candle (the candle representing you).

Speak the words:

This candle I light to represent myself. It burns as does the spirit. It is as myself in all things.

Light the 2 white candles

Speak the words:

These are the symbols for truth. They are enjoined about (your name) and to me show all truth.

Then speak the words:

As I roke in the night ‘cross the brown heath bare,
In the bright moons light saw a castle fair;
Lords and ladies, great and small,
Where crowding in, ’twas a festival,
Grasses in the wind are waving.
They bade me welcome and I went
To drink their wine to my heart’s content.
I danced and laughed with the ladies fair.
Ne’er in my life had I such cheer;
Grasses in the wind are waving.
Then all at once there came a cry:
Haro by yaro! Asleep fell I,
While a lady dancing at my side
Seemed like a lizared away to glide;
Grasses in the wind are waving.
I woke in the early light of day,
In an olden ruin I did lay,
O’er the rock and into the sun
I saw a green-gold lizard run!
Grasses in the wind are waving.
Now the truth I know and it stays with me,
For I have seen what I did see,
All secret knowledge came to mind,
Borne on laughter of the other kind;
Grasses in the wind are waving.Sit in quiet contemplation for half an hour.

The truth of the subject in question will come to you.

Extinguish candles (without pinching or blowing out)

The Plate or Pentacle

Also known as a Shield or Tile

As a caster of real spells, an important and sometimes over looked magick tool is the Plate. The Plate also known as the pentacle, shield or tile, is a magickal tool of the element, earth. It is associated with the direction of North. The primary use of the Plate is protection and shielding for tarot reading, scrying and other forms of divination. It is also used for healing and broadcasting certain earth energies into your environment.

Traditionally, the Plate is a flat disk made from earth materials like metal, wood, stone, clay, porcelain or glass. The Plate is usually placed on the altar or hung over the door and windows. Plates may also be used as a place to put other charged or ritually consecrated magickal items.

Depending on the material you use for your plate will determine how you decorate it. The most common decoration for the plate is a pentagram, or 5 pointed star. However, I have seen many other designs as well. It really depends on what earth energy symbol connects best with the spell caster. You can carve it, paint it or even glue other materials to create the design. Be careful with glue if you are using the Plate to burn incense or other herbs on it.  It is advisable to trace your design on the Plate first either with a pencil or print the design and use carbon paper.

For those who use wood for their material, you can use paint or a wood-burning pen to make your design. If you have burned your design on the plate, sand the surface. If you use paint, then green, brown or black are primary earth colors. Once you have finished with the design,  brush or spray a few coats of polyurethane varnish over the surface to protect it and give it a shine. It is best to use non-flammable, preferably earth friendly polyurethane varnish especially if you plan to burn anything on your Plate. If you are concerned that your Plate could scratch or mark the surface of your altar, you cut a piece of felt and glue to the bottom.

You can also purchase a Plate. There is a large selection available on-line or in metaphysical stores. eRealSpells.com has an aStore with a nice selection ofPlates, pentacles and tiles for you to choose.

Use your Plate to consecrate ritual items used in spell casting or bless and charge talismans with earth energy. Alternately, you can hang it over the door or window for healing and protection. The power of earth energy manifests physically (health, home), financially (money, job) or in relationships (business, family).

Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram

Note: Use Banishing Earth pentagrams under normal circumstances (pentagram drawn starting from lower left point up to top point etc.). Pentagrams should be made as large as possible- almost a meter high since you’ll start the drawing of one down by your left hip, and the top will be somewhere around the level of your forehead. Words in parenthesis are only for pronunciation guides or translation and are NOT to be spoken out loud.

1. Face East.

Visualize an Orb of White Brilliance above your head (at the crown Chakra and up to 10 inches/25cm in diameter roughly- I’ve heard anywhere between 4 – 10 inches so I just do what feels right). This is your ‘Kether’. When you can see it clearly and bright, reach your weapon (wand/athame) up into it, and bring down the light from it into your forehead and into the middle of your head- straight down from the orb of light.

Touching the forehead with the tip of the weapon say “Ateh.” (“Unto Thee”)

2. Bring the Light down through your Middle-Pillar/Pranic-Tube (an energy shaft that runs along the spine and straight through the middle of your body) while directing its movement with your weapon and imagine it shooting straight down into another large Orb of Light (this time brilliant Green) beneath your feet. (I usually point and thrust the weapon straight down with help from my other hand so that it points at the ground in front of me after directing the energy from Crown to Feet through the body.)

After directing the energy from Crown to Feet in the above manner, say “Malkuth.” (Malkooth – “the Kingdom”)

3. Now visualize a large Orb of brilliant Red Light interpenetrating your right shoulder. (It can be around 4 to 6 inches in diameter).

Touching the right shoulder with the tip of the blade, say “Ve-Geburah.” (Veh-Geboorah- “and the power”)

4. Visualize a large Orb of Brilliant Blue Light interpenetrating your left shoulder. Draw a line of Light connecting the Red Orb in your right shoulder with the Blue Orb in your left shoulder.

Touching the left shoulder with the tip of the blade, say “Ve-Gedulah.” (Veh-Gedulah- “and the glory”)

5. Sweep both hands down, out, then back up and around again in a circular motion, and come to rest over your heart. Clasping the hands upon the breast, visualize your heart to be a Brilliant Golden-yellow Orb (4 to 6 inches in diameter).

Say “le-OLAHM, AMEN.” (leh-Oh-Lahm, Amen – “to the ages, Amen“)

6. Facing East, make a Banishing-Earth pentagram with the wand/athame. (Neon blue is a common color to first see the pentagrams while tracing them. White or even fiery pentagrams may be visualized if that works better for you.)

Vibrate “YHVH” (Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh)

7. Turning to the South, make the same pentagram, but vibrate “ADNI” (Ah-DOH-nai)

8. Turning to the West, make the same pentagram, but vibrate “AHIH” (Eh-HEH-yeh)

9. Turning to the North, make the same pentagram, but vibrate “AGLA” (Ah-Geh-LAh)

10. Return East. Extend the arms in the form of a cross and say:

11. “Before me Raphael” (pronounced “Rah-Fay-el“)

The names of the angels may be vibrated and the macrocosmic forces themselves invoked while doing so. Visualize the forms of each angelic being appearing when their names are spoken/vibrated/invoked. Raphael may be visualized in the east beyond the drawn flaming pentagrams as a winged (or wingless) figure in flowing yellow robes, or just an abstract picture of winds and skies with golden-yellow swirlings and/or the sensation of breezes etc.

12. “Behind me Gabriel” (pronounced “Gah-bree-el“)

Gabriel may be visualized in the west beyond the flaming pentagrams as a figure in blue robes, or as something abstract like a shaft of water or a blue watery landscape with a towering chalice in front of it etc.

13. “On my right hand Michael” (pronounced “Mee-kai-el“)

Michael may be visualized in the south beyond the flaming pentagrams as a figure in red robes, or as something abstract like a column of fire with a fiery landscape behind him etc.

14. “On my left hand Uriel” (pronounced “Ur-ee-el“)

Uriel may be visualized in the north beyond the flaming pentagrams as a figure in green robes (or, in black robes accented with olive, citrine, and russet), or as something abstract like an earthy/grassy meadow-like landscape with a shaft of wheat in front of it etc.

15. “For about me flames the pentagram,”

16. “And in the column shines the six-rayed Star.”

17.-21. Repeat Qabalistic Cross (#’s 1 – 5 )

History of the Magick Spelling

As I learn more about real spells and spell casting, a question has come up. Why is there a “k” included in the spelling of Magick? This question has plagued modern day magicians since it was first printed in John Dee’s Diaries during the Elizabethan age.
The earliest citation of the word is from the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer, who wrote in 1384:
And Clerkes eke which konne we Alle this magikes nature
That Craftely doon her ententes
To maken in certeyn ascendentes Ymages, lo,
thrugh which magike To make a man ben hool or syke.
It was a popular form during the Elizabethan period. Both Shakespeare and Milton used the form “Magick” in their writings. It is unknown if they added any meaning by using the “K” or if they are just mere errors in spelling. In the modern era, it denotes the difference between Illusionist’s magic or stage magic and those who cast real spells.

It is commonly believed that the “K” form of Magick was returned to common use in the early twentieth century by Aleister Crowley. Crowley had a number of reasons for including the “K”. It is the 11th letter of the alphabet and 11 is a powerful master number. 11 represents intuition, creativity, and inspiration. These qualities, Crowley surmised added power to ordinary magic. Adding the “K” had the added benefit of defining his form of magick from the stage magic performed illusionists. Aleister Crowley defined Magick as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the will.”

I have found that even today, using the spelling Magick adding the “K” defines the term as Occult or ritual type as opposed to illusionist/stage performer. For example “Let’s go see the magic show!” or “Let the power of my magick show!” To those who perform the Magick the “K” is silent when the word is spoken but the power remains.

On the last night let them burn down on their own.

It is not wise to blow out or pinch out the candles as this can destroy the luck.
